Soul Of The Moonlight Butterfly Location And How To Obtain It

In Dark Souls, special boss items provide players with crucial options for upgrading gear or acquiring currency. The Soul of the Moonlight Butterfly is one such rare item that offers multiple distinct paths depending on your character build. Understanding where to find the boss and how to claim its unique reward is essential for early-game progression.

Where to Find the Moonlight Butterfly

The Moonlight Butterfly resides within the misty ruins of Darkroot Garden. To reach the boss fog wall, players must navigate through the overgrown forest paths past giant stone knights and foliage enemies. The arena itself is located atop a long stone bridge attached to a ruined tower at the edge of the zone.

Defeating the Boss to Acquire the Soul

Obtaining the item requires completely defeating the boss in combat. Since the butterfly hovers at a distance for much of the fight, using ranged magic, pyromancy, or cross-bows is highly effective. When the creature periodically lands on the bridge railing to rest, melee attackers should deal maximum physical damage before it takes flight again. Upon its defeat, the Soul of the Moonlight Butterfly drops directly into your inventory.

Crafting Unique Weapons and Shields

Once acquired, you can take the boss soul to the Giant Blacksmith in Anor Londo for equipment ascension. Combining the soul with a +10 thrusting weapon creates the powerful Moonlight Butterfly Horn spear. Alternatively, ascending a +10 standard shield with this item crafts the Crystal Ring Shield.

Consuming the Soul for Currency

If you do not plan to use magic-scaling weapons or shields, the soul can be consumed for immediate gains. Crushing the soul directly yields 1,200 souls for your character. Feeding the item to Kingseeker Frampt instead rewards you with 8,000 souls, making it a far more lucrative option.
